I remember before we had kids and lived in Northern Liberties coming to Honey’s after a particular bad day at work and thinking…I could live here. It was a Tuesday night and the place had jazz flooding out the open windows, it was unusually empty and they just introduced me to pickled tomatoes and the largest fried chicken I had ever seen. I mean they took a giant chicken, fried it and then gave it to me. menu
Flash forward to today and I have two kids, live a few blocks away from Honey’s and left my not worth it job in the dust.
With my husband traveling and hours before bedtime to kill I packed up the crew, a healthy bag of trucks and headed to Honey’s for a 4:30 p.m. dinner. Knowing that our recent restaurant outings had not exactly been relaxing I was expecting to fail miserably but was up for the personal challenge.
Honey’s cast the same spell on my boys as it once did on me. Northern Liberties is about family and the staff at Honey’s is no stranger to the bibbed bellies of the mini clientele that sit at their tables. High chairs and covered cups of waters with straws along with food fast on the table helped me survived. Even thought the table looked like “trucks with a side of food” we all managed to eat, not ruin other people’s meals and hang out with each other. 7 month old “Ollie-wood” is teeth challenged so he went for the $1.00 applesauce, two year old H.H. is a morning man so he dived right into the $3.50 French Toast Sticks and for once this week I got to eat before 9:00 p.m. and went with the lightly fried zucchini slices and spicy avocado sandwich.
Your trip to Honey’s may or may not work out. I know I will pay in other ways for this seemingly easy meal out with the boys but I am just not sure where and when. The important thing is this is a homey place where you can take your kids and pretend you are in your Jewish who also happens to be Southern Grandmother’s kitchen and not worry that your crew will embarrass you. I guarantee you there is a another mother three feet away dealing with the same thing.
Dinner is served in addition to the regular menu beginning at 5pm Mon-Sat
