Step #3: Ebates & Shopathome.com
Now it is time for you to learn how to get a kick back for all the hard work you put into your on-line shopping and all the free personal information you are giving to Google.com.
Maybe you have seen the commercials for Ebates.com and ShopatHome.com and thought ahhh, yeah, right. Well I have to say they actually work. Every time you shop for something on line you get a percentage back of the purchase. So far I have earned $40 total from both sites. I don’t mind a check for random cash showing up in my mailbox.
Here is how it works: Go to BOTH of these sites and create a free account. The reason you are going to create accounts at both of these sites is because they offer different competitive percentages back on your purchases. Meaning Ebates offers 6% back on your on-line Sephora purchase and Shopathome.com offers 2%. It all depends on the retailer.
Here is how I end up doing it. We are going to use Sephora as an example again today. I go to Sephora.com and put what I want in my basket. Then I remeber (this is really how it always happens) that I should see if I can get a percentage back on my purchase. I type in Sephora to both Ebates.com and Shopathome.com to see who has the higher percentage. Ebates does so I click on the Sephora website link on the Ebates site. It takes me to my cart that I have already filled (from before when I forgot to check ebates.com first). Then I hit up Retailmenot.com to see if I can get a promo code for a discount. I end up picking from a long list of designer sample kits enter the promo code and done!
Here is another example of a purchase I got for less. I was ordering a book on-line. The cost of the book was exactly the same on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. I get free shipping on both so that didn’t determine who would get the sale. Amazon feels they are too big to offer anything on Retailmenot.com and the cash back websites….but Barnes & Noble is not. From Shopathome.com I got 2% back and from Retailmenot.com I got 15% off. The better deal ended up being from B&N.com.
