If the time between nap and dinner can be torture a new little dance class that just debuted in No Libs last week might be for you. This is a grassroots launch among the local parents to provide a fun and affordable dance class for boys and girls. The class is $6.00/ child every Tuesday from 4:45 to 5:15 and will run until April 24th.
If you go to The Lara and Joe Show I can easily make a comparison to that. It is very low-key, friendly and informal. It is 100% a get up and move class that is not gender specific. The little girls came in their ballet tights and the boys were wearing jeans. Everyone was jumping around like frogs, sliding around like snakes. The instrucotr Liza Sherretta did a great job and her expereince teaching little ones definetly showed. Around the perimeter were moms, dads and baby siblings…and my boys. I think it is going to take them a few classes to warm up but very few kids were sitting on the side lines.
If you like formal, traditional dance classes this is not for you. The class is very consitent with the neighborhood vibe of having fun and come as you are. If you are looking for a great chance for your kids to shake out your sillys then this class is for you.
The only thing that is tough about this class is the location. The dance class is in an old school build on 2nd Street a few block past Girard inbetween Fishtown and No-Libs. The area is rough around the edges. I think local families are comfortable with it but if you are not from the neighborhood you might be a little hestient. There is plenty of easy parking right on the street out front and even through I can stroller there I drove. I am not sure if I would stroller or drive the next time we go. There was a pretty good amount of room for strollers inside.
How to get in:
The building is a huge, old, brick school building with a black fenced in parking area on the right. Park on the street right outside and walk through the parking area. As you get to the steps of the building the door you want to go into is on the right. Open the white door with the Raices Cultuales Lation Americanas logo on it and you will see the dance class room to the right. Plenty of room for your stroller to the left.
