I have been trusted with getting the Moon Bounce for this year’s block party. Nothing makes your kids say “This is the BEST DAY EVER” like a Moon Bounce so I did feel a little pressure. I mean we are going to shut down the street for this thing. And last year the kids just stood there in amazement and shock and every once in a while you would hear a squeal of delight from the mini crowd as the Moon Bounce Castle came to life. Yep, No pressure. Just how I like it.
But no worries. A Living Social Deal actually dropped me at the virtual doorstep of MoonBounce Philadelphia and its owner Jason. First thing I like about Moon Bounce Philadelphia is that they give you a great flat fee for an all day rental, which is a minimum of 6 hours. First mistake… do not under-estimate your children. They can and they will spend 6 + hours in one of these suckers. I speak from experience. Last year we got one from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Simply not enough time. The second thing I like is that Jason schooled me in what to look for in a great Moon Bounce . He wanted me to get exactly what I wanted for the party. The third thing I really liked about MoonBounce Philadelphia is that they were happy to work with in my time frame for drop off and pick up. Jason was super nice and I would say overall it took 5 minutes to book! And that works for me. Here are a few tips so you can add Moon Bounce expert to your resume too…
Top three things Jason says you should know when getting a moon bounce:
*The biggest mistake is renting from a company that is not registered with the state and does not have insurance. You can simply ask for a copy of insurance.
* Most legitimate companies will clean each unit when they arrive at your location during setup. Don’t be afraid to ask them how often they clean their equipment.
*For busy holiday weekends you should book at least 2 weeks in advance.
*Their pricing is for an all-day rental. The last set up is by noon and the first pickup is at 6pm so you will have at least 6 hours. This is not the case with all Moon Bounce rental companies.
Cost can vary on these Moon Bounces but overall I think they are really affordable. Most castles will be in the $200-$400 range. The pirate ship above is in the $350 range. I honestly think Henry would pass out if he saw that outside our house. I did not spring for that one this year but maybe next year. Bottom line there is a Moon Bounce to fit every type of party and budget.
We own a Little Tikes personal bounce castle that I got from Toys R Us. These are not strong enough to withstand a block party amount of kids. At $300 it might seem like a better deal because you get to keep it but they really are only good for 2- maybe 3 children and up to 250 pounds. And you are totally kidding yourself if you think you party going adults are not going to take your Moon Bounce for a spin.
* please not that I chose to capitalize Moon Bounce out of respect for the contraption that has brought my boys so much joy.
