Whipped is a cute little corner bakeshop on the edge of Fishtown. I am talking all the way up Girard, left on Palmer, and right on Belgrade. If you did not understand a word of that you really need to spend more time in the ever increasingly popular and hip part of town because you are missing out. And as with all “up and coming hoods” there is plenty of parking.
I have been following Whipped on facebook and they are cranking out perfection after perfection when it comes to cakes, cookies and cupcakes. I mean they actually make that show Cake Boss look like child’s play and Brown Betty…well like prudes. From Sesame Street characters to edible crochet afghan inspired cookies (Pintrest worthy to the hilt btw) to Fresh Sasquatch brownies (just eat it) they are kind of kill’n it.
I will say that after seeing all their special order and themed cakes, cookies and cupcakes I was slightly disappointed when we walked in and that stuff was not all over the place or for sale. Not sure what I was thinking but they did have plenty of yummy cupcakes with a touch of flair for the boys to pick from. They also had the most beautiful stack of sugar cookies and each one had a different neon hue of icing smeared on top. They just screamed…we LOVE to party.
The shop is an open floor plan with the majority of it the baking and decorating area. So as you are picking out or pick up your goodies you can sneak a peak of the latest high end cookie and icing creation. The boys ended up getting vanilla cupcakes with a beach theme and I managed to sneak a Sasquatch brownie in the box for later. I think the consistency of the cupcakes was pretty similar to Brown Betty. They are great but dense. (I am no master baker which is why I use a box mix BUT I do sub out water for buttermilk and the result are amazing) I think I should have let them warm up to room temp before I let the boys dive in but honestly I did not hear a peep out of them once I handed them over. The Sasquatch brownie which I had when I finally got everyone to bed…was like chocolate butter. In case you are confused that is a good thing.
I will say that if you are planning on grabbing some for a hostess gift or dinner party Brown Betty does a more grandious presentation with the icing. And Brown Betty’s are so big you usually just need to buy 4 and cut them up for sharing. Where I think Whipped has the extreme visual and creative edge is their cookies and cakes. They have me thinking it is time to sub cupcakes for cookies that are sure to win some major Sasquatch brownie points at the next dinner party I walk into.
Two cupcakes and a Sasquach brownie was just under $10.
