Last week I hit Kelly Drive with Ollie and then followed it up with a trip to Smith House. The only thing missing was an easy, pre-nap, kid friendly spot for lunch. There is nothing in the Smith House area but I did remember passing the Trolley Car Cafe which is at the end of Kelly Drive in East Falls. What I remembered most was that is has a big outdoor patio in the back. I figured the space was big enough for me to keep Ollie entertained while we waited for our lunch.

It took us under 10 minutes to get their from Smith House and there was plenty of room in the parking lot. There is also a $0.50/hour parking lot across the street too. We popped our heads in the door and asked for a table outside. In a few minutes we had our menus and Ollie had an apple juice in a kids cup.

The patio was big enough that I grabbed his soccer ball out of the car and we kicked around and played hide-n-seek while we waited for our food. I order the Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich and Ollie went with the Mac-n-Cheese off the $5.00 Kid’s Menu. The food was fresh, yummy and healthy. They have a full menu including ice cream and smoothies if ou are just looking for a snack.

I would totally go back to the Trolley Car Cafe and bring the whole crew. It would make a great break for my next hardcore run from Boathouse Row , on our way home from the Kroc Center or for a treat for the kids the next time I use the bike trailer and do the loop. If I biked it I would totally toss some toys in the bike trailer because in addition to the patio they have a large area that is all small pebbles. Sounds silly but I can see the boys quietly killing time playing with their trucks, buckets and shovels in the pebbles. Allowing me to take a mini break or have a conversation or complete a thought. Score.
