I found myself at the top of the new Monaco Hotel at 5th and Chestnut last night in the Stratus Skytop Lounge with the girls. The National Constitution Center had a little shin-dig to promote their Prohibition Exhibit so it was a great time to take a peek.
It has been a few years since I have found myself at the Soho Grand in NYC but for a few hours I got to have a little piece of my pre-toddler life back. Rooftop +Bar+Lounge is so rare in Philly and on an unusually warm Feb night it was not only a rare treat but a dreamy one as well. You want to feel rich? You want to feel fancy? Walk into hotel Monaco and take anyone of the black elevators to the 10th floor.
It looks like a high end West Elm living room smacked with some Soho. A lot of wood, a lot of natural colored textiles. You have the main bar with a few sets of couches down the length of the bar. Outside is a large rooftop area that has two “penthouse” lounges at both ends. The inside of the penthouse lounges are super slick and dark. So dark our sky high heels had a few moments.
Overall I did love that New York was plopped on top of 5th and Chestnut. The food was decent the cocktails strong (over-priced) and we had a great time. My only jam up was the couches in the main bar must have been West Elm or CB2 b/c they look great but they fell short on being lush. Would I go back? Totally. Do I think it will be a lot of suits and financial biz-nas types and fancy tourist when the weather warms up? Yup. (aka people watching galore)
