1. I just thought I’d update you on our experiences there. Waiting for the inbound flight was wonderful! We sat upstairs watching the planes come in, and as soon as we saw her exit the plane and head toward baggage claim, we scurried outside to greet her at the end of the ramp.

For the outbound flight, we got there way too early, but spent most of the time sitting upstairs watching planes come in. She got through security quickly, and although the departure was about 30 minutes delayed, everything was smooth.

Even the trip to and from the airport was uneventful. I honestly didn’t even notice the extra half hour of driving time. This will be our airport of choice from now on, as long as we can find a flight to/from it!

  2. Thanks for your post. We are using TTN for the first time in Sept. for at trip to Orlando, leaving on the Sat. morning 7:00 am flight. Happy that we only have to drive 20 min. to get to TTN instead of 45+ min. to PHL. Just wondering about how long it generally takes to get through security since it appears they take it a bit more seriously at TTN – but I would imagine alot less people since there is only one flight being checked instead of a dozen flights. Also, is the security checkpoint within earshot of the boarding gate – just in case we are running late/oversleep – at least we might be able to let them know we’re in the building so they can hold the plane for a minute or two, unlike PHL where you may be a 1/4 mile away from the gate and no one cares. Thanks for any insight.

      Hi J-,

I have now flown on Frontier our of TTN six times. The airport is really small. Lately they have been better about security…basically that have been normal. Yes security is quicker since there are only two flight leaving at a time ever. Yes security is right next to the gate so you will be totally fine.

I have been flying without my boys but if I had them the hardest part might be the parking lot. It can be a bit of a hike if you have kids and bags for everyone. I would suggest if you can’t find a spot in the main lot dropping off your crew curb side and parking the car. It will be a lot let hectic. Also print out your ticket at home. There is always a line at the counter. If you print out online you can skip that and just head downstairs. You guys are going to be fine. Lately my flight have been late but I fly out around 5:30 p.m. With you being the first flight of the day you should be great.

Have a great time with your family and I am so sorry it took me this long to get back to you!

      1. Thanks for your response and additional insight. We’re hopeful that using TTN will prove to be easier given its proximity to our home – even if there are less frills while waiting.

  3. Thanks very much for putting all this together, it’s helped us ensure as smooth a transition as possible from Philly to airplane this summer. It’s also helpful to see other comments adding more of the inside information that’s impossible to discover otherwise.

  4. Yes, the FB page is still up! I commented on your post on it last night. 🙂

So are you saying we could actually wait for her in our vehicle right outside the terminal? Wow! You certainly can’t do that at PHL, they’ll shoo you away! LOL

Yes, she will definitely be checking a bag. I showed my Son your review, so I’m assuming he also showed her the pics so she knows what to look for. That does seem like a very odd baggage claim, but as long as it’s safe and secure, it doesn’t really matter as long as she gets her bag.

We decided on avoiding as much of I-95 or the Schuylkill as possible, and will bypass the city by taking the turnpike from Downingtown to Rt 1 in Bensalem and we’ll pick up 95 in Langhorne by Sesame Place. I used to live in Levittown when I was in college, so it’ll be nice to see what that area looks like since my last visit in 1999. It cuts about 15 minutes off the trip, as well. And no rush hour, not at the time this flight will come in! Returning might cause us some rush hour headaches, though.

Again, thank you so much for your review. It was the most helpful thing during this whole planning process! 🙂

No problem. Glad I could help. There might be a guard out in front of the airport but for the most part to can circle the little parking lot and she can call you when she lands. You will see the road leading up to the airport. Everything is really small. The baggage claim is actually new and really clean. It is just a basic shelter. She will be be fine!

  5. I just wanted to say thank you so much for your review. My Son’s girlfriend is flying out from Cincinnati next week, and she’s terrified of flying. I found the Frontier flight to TTN and had never even thought about Trenton being a destination that I’d ever use. We’ll have to make a 1.5 hour trip (as opposed to a 1 hour trip to PHL), but it looks like it will be well worth the extra half hour! At least at TTN, my Son and I will be able to park and wait inside for his girlfriend’s arrival, instead of having to wait in a parking lot somewhere in east jabip, and making her walk through a confusing terminal to find her way to us. At least I’m HOPING that’s the case!? Please tell me it is!?

Also, thank you for pointing to the FB page. If our experience goes well (return flight to Cincinnati isn’t until the end of July, so it’ll be a while), we’ll definitely be using TTN whenever possible.

Thanks again for your review! 🙂

      HI Shelli.

I am glad my review was helpful. TTN is a lot more manageable then PHL airport. The parking lot is about the size of one you would find at a strip mall. Not tiny but not big either. It is $8/hour to park. I do see people pull right up to the terminal and wait for a little bit. To wait for her you will want to drive past the front of the airport and after she goes to baggage claim she will be walking up a ramp the is outside and located on the right side of the airport building (if you we standing facing the airpot.) You should be able to pull right there, wait for her and see her come up the ramp.

For her since she is staying for a bit I am sure she is checking a bag. After she gets off the plane everyone goes through a small building (like a large garden shed) marked Baggage Claim. She will wait in that building then a guy will pull up in a golf cart, roll up the back wall of the building and place the bags out for everyone to get.

It is very simple and very easy. She will be fine and it will be a little better for her than PHL. Since you will be traveling 95 north just make sure you are not in the middle of morning or afternoon rush hour. 95 can get busy. Let me know if you have more questions.

huh. you are right. I know that guys that runs it b/c he contacted me after the post. I will go out to him- thanks for letting me know. Also we have a bunch of parents that flew out of there so we will get you an answer. I will post and find out for you.

        1. I did, thanks! I flew out and they had whole milk at the snack stand by the gate.

  6. We’re flying out of Trenton for the first time next week so this post made my day! Lots of good info. Random question, but did they sell milk at the snack bar type place? Did you bring a sippy cup or anything thru security? I have a 17 month old and I’m wondering if they’ll let me bring his milk sippy through…. Thanks! 🙂

      Hi Kristin.

I did this trip with out the boys which is rare….however I know they are pretty strict at security. They were all over me. I did not try the snack bar but we can get you an answer….Go this facebook page: FLY TRENTON MERCER AIRPORT and ask… they will be able to tell you. Tell me how you make out.
