National Mechanics was today’s backdrop for a ladies + Ollie lunch in Old City. The National Mechanics space has been a lot of things including a Coyote Ugly bar. All were short lived but it seems that the space has finally found the right owner. The space is large, open and there is plenty of seating and high chairs to go round at lunch time. The atmosphere is chill. Ollie wore his Wood Shop trucker hat and I went with the hipster with a smack of Tahoe look (what else?).
Ollie had the mac n cheese and I went with the veggie burger that my friends raved about. Both came out quick and did the trick. Although it looks “pubby” inside it does not have the horrible bar rag smell that most pubs have. This spot is actually clean, the staff is sweet and they are happy to grab a high chair for you. Also everything on the menu is priced right.
The art was one of things that did catch my eye. My friends informed me that the art is meant to distract and make you uncomfortable. It is mild and blend into the background but you might notice the horsetail automatically swishing around in the corner or the mounted greyhound dog head with the wig.
All in all…If you can not cringe when I bring in a baby, bring out good food quickly and get me out of there before tantrum time…I can overlook creepy – thought provoking art!
It is worth mentioning that there is a flight of steps to tackle to get in…but once you are in there is room for your stroller.
Things I Loved:
not crowded at lunch time
food came out asap
found decent metered parking around the corner
